Mine plow

The Firth lightweight mine plow is designed for use against surface laid munitions such as scatterable mines laid in off road terrain.  Design for breaching as opposed to area clearance operations, two mine clearing blades are provided to sweep mines to the side of the breach to clear a safe path for the vehicle to follow.  The plow blades are fitted with shallow tines that penetrate the upper surface of the ground to lift partially buried mines out of the ground to be swept by the blates.  Spoil is thrown forwards as the minefield is breached with the purpose of detonating anti disturbance fused mines away from the plow blades.

The tines are designed to cause minimal disturbance to the ground to as to minimise the damage caused to the soil structure, with the purpose of enabling following vehicles to develop traction.

The relatively low draft forces that are developed by the plough makes it suitable for use with a wide variety of vehicles including lighter armoured vehicles as well as heavier vehicles.

When not used in mine clearing operations, the plow blades are raised off the ground.  Alternative stowage heights are provided so that the most appropriate can be selected for the terrain to be negotiated.
